A short History of Croquet

Croque family seem so far back as the Romans and a game called Paganica. Paganica was a game played in the country and seems to have involved a small ball on a few trees with a stick. The winner is the person who can hit most of the trees with a minimum of Stokes. Played by Palle Maille-branched put offside by Paganica in cities and towns, where space and trees, was probably a rare commodity. The use of hoops and gates appear to have been introduced around this time.

Pallet-Maille was popular in France and was introduced in Ireland. Data show that the game was played regularly at the 1852nd We believe that the name comes from the Croquet game time in France and comes from the peasant version of the game where a shepherd Crook (Croc) was used.

Played by Pallet Maille moved to England in the early 19th century and was published and promoted by WT Whitmore in its modern form of croquet. Walter James Whitmore is a popular figure in the game and later took the (unofficial) world champion title in 1867.

Later in 1868 the All England Croquet Club was formed. There are now 176 registered clubs with Croquet Croquet Association and with an average of about 55 members per club, you can see how popular the game has become. The game itself is little changed from the year.

Croquet is a game where each player stands alone and challenge their opponents in a seemingly simple game of pushing the balls through hoops (wickets) in the correct order and then win by being the first player in the post (the game) to win. In essence this is true, but the tactics and strategy in this game makes it challenging and highly competitive, but still very nice.

The inherent simplicity of the game means that everyone can enjoy this beautiful game, from the smallest to the oldest, and perhaps it is one of the reasons that games Croquet has remained a favorite.
