HIGHLIGHTS
 

KEYNOTE THEME: ROADMAP FOR THE PREMIER CITY-REGION

Hon. Jerry P. Treñas, Iloilo City Mayor and chair of MIGEDC, will present the Iloilo City Development Agenda and the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras Roadmap 2010 as blueprints of the development directions of the city and the MIG region. Setting the general theme for the summit, the keynote address will cover the development highlights of Iloilo City and the MIG region by presenting the best practices recognized by international and national bodies and the identify current trends in regional economic development and city competitiveness.

LEADERS' ROUNDTABLE ON THE POWER OF WORKING AS ONE

Prominent Ilonggo leaders representing various sectors will identify the strengths and opportunities and demonstrate how the current environmental, social and governance issues will become material to economic performance and competitiveness of the MIG. Summit participants will adopt a declaration establishing a consensus roadmap for the future of the initiative and deepening their commitment.

BREAKOUT SESSONS

Experiencing Tourism

To be spearheaded by AusAID’s Local Governance Development Program, this involves initiatives and best practices of MIG to advance sustainable tourism development, agri-tourism, heritage conservation, and festival management, among others, and will showcase the region’s tourism development programs.

Advancing Infrastructure Development

Also to be led by AusAID’s Local Governance Development Program, this will present the various issues and concerns on infrastructure development and planning of key infrastructure development programs for MIG as well as its coordinated development framework, with the end view of calling for private sector involvement to support the priorities.

Educating the City Region

Respected educators will highlight and address the dual concerns of educator supply and quality in the schools, and will tell stories of innovative programs which incorporate universal values into the training of future leaders and human resources of the region.

Showcasing Good Local Governance

This will be a sharing forum and dialogue among LGUs and international counterparts to provide new perspectives and strategies to local leaders on how to address development and governance concerns in their localities like solid waste and other environmental concerns, local economic development, information and communication technology, and infrastructure development, among others.
